Guitar Hero III beaten on Hard

Posted on 11. Jan, 2009 by Jerzy Drozda Jr in Blog

I was about to save this piece of information to myself, but since it makes a perfect blog post, and my ego wasn’t stroked in a while here it is: I’ve beaten Guitar Hero III on Hard. I got my GH3 (PC version) from my good friend and co-worker (Greg) for Xmass. I’ve seen people playing that and getting all excited while playing solos and I thought – “Pff… I can do that!”. Greg decided to crush me, so he bought the game – “Now let’s see what you’re made of”.

I instantly started to play on Medium – I didn’t want to get lazy by playing on Easy, besides I have piano and guitar skills so I thought it’ll make things easier for me. Unfortunately it’s exactly the opposite.

Two days has passed and we all went home for Xmass. I had to leave my GH3 at the office, since my home workstation was to weak to handle the graphics. I got back to the office after New Years and started playing again. Greg was playing to and we were constantly trying to beat each other scores. FYI Greg is the type of guy that beats every single game you throw at him in no time, so for me being better than him was really a change. He crushes me in every other game there is.

By the beginning of this week Greg told me he has beaten one of my scores. I said “No way!” so I played the song and luckily beaten him. Then the life changing moment came – he said “Oh yeah?! Now try that on Hard!” So I did. Got a pretty nice score. Greg was impressed, but he thought I just got lucky, so he said “If you’re soooo goooood do it on Expert!”. And so I did.

That’s how I realized that maybe I could start playing on Expert. So far I’ve got 35 of 42 songs. Greg was pushing me to unlock all the songs, so I thought, that maybe I can do it on Hard. And I did.

Two or three days ago I started to play against Lou, and today I’ve beaten him – two times in a row! Now it’s time to go back to Expert and try to beat the game again. I wish I had some time to play the game, so that I could say that I’ve beaten in on Hard and Expert in less then two weeks, but I guess beating it in that time on Hard is good enough.

To celebrate this amazing day I decided to do a tutorial on creating Guitar Hero emulator in After Effects. It’s not going to be a very useful effect, but I’m pretty damn sure it’s going to have some crazy tricks and techniques in it, so look forward to it.

Guitar Hero is an amazing game. I enjoy it like no other. But there are down sides to all this. I was about to buy a flat screen and a decent video card for my new workstation that I’ve been putting together for few months and saving cash, but now my plans have changed. It’s time to get XBox and a full package of Rock Band. I bet I can play the drums too. Oh Yeah!

For those of you who are interested in how I’ve beaten Lou here are some tips:

  • Practice so that you can easily go back to Green on your rock-o-meter after Lou throws some powerups at you. Most of the parts are relatively easy, except the fast 4 or 5 fingered hammer-ons and pull-offs.
  • When Lou hist you with Lefty powerup just play from your memory.
  • In the first fast HOPOs (hammer-ons and pull-offs) solo there’s a power up waiting for you. If you can’t play that just skip it and focus on grabbing the powerup. Buttons are Red and Orange.
  • Save as many powerups as you can, and then unleash them sequentially (one after another) in the part after long pause and few long notes.
  • When you finally beat Lou don’t get all excited, because there’s a small solo waiting for you that you can’t fail, but have no fear – it’s easy and there are even some parts from the actual battle.
Hope that helps. Now go, grab your guitar and kick the crap out of Lou.
Good luck my hard rocking amigos!

Hehe wouldn’t have thought that someone who plays an actual guitar would be so fascinated by a game that just imitates it.
But I guess it’s not the same.
Anyway looking forward to that minitut =)

    Greetings Leo

I don’t understand this post, is it serious, or is it a parody of ridiculous nerdy testosterone-fuelled small-penised gamer-boy rants?

Eldridge, I think your comment is unkind. Maltaannon has provided hours of free & very helpful tutorials here. “Guitar Hero” may not be your cup of tea–it isn’t mine, either–but there’s no call to flame they guy with hateful stereotypes. Show some gratitude and indulge the guy!

Aaaahh… don’t sweat it Robert. I don’t. The fact that I provide free content doesn’t allow me to be an ass, which I was in this post. Eldridge apparently didn’t get the joke. Sure. Everything in that post is true, but my attitude was a joke. I didn’t understand all the excitement around GH3, until I tried it, It’s soooo cooool!

No sweat here. And by way of apology to Eldridge, I’ll admit I’m a Wii man myself. How’s THAT for a small-penised gamer boy?

I can’t get past the solo part at the end in the Cult of Personality on Expert. It’s the last encore in the game. Then there are 4 more pieces to play and then Lou. Can’t wait to beat him on Expert.

Hope you’re serious about the After Effects emulator tutorial – I’ve just been sitting here staring at some screen grabs wondering how the hell I’m going to do that for a music video I’m planning!

two long time, no health conditions, and began to run out the feelings that enchant an emotional account of the time. Cancel the account is a bit cumbersome, but do you like the book never zero nor does it change?
11, back singles (referring to the times without partner) to enjoy with friends around the shuttle between the crazy fun, never worry about the other party will re-estimate your friends light color
