Finally the things are starting to take the right turn. I’m doing a training DVD, developing a few small apps for you guys, and recently I got in touch with a brilliant software developer and we already build our first AE plugin.
I can’t let you know on any details yet, but I can tell you this. For the time being our plans are to develop a bunch of small and probably freeware plugins that just make our work as motiongraphics and vfx artists easier by simply saving us some time on tasks that could be automated or simply handled better by AE. But thats not all. Big plugins are also coming soon.
So far there are two plugins that are pretty close to finish so make sure to visit me from time to time for some more updates.
We are planning to put one of the plugins for free on the upcoming Making It Look Great 5 training DVD, but it’s nothing certain just yet, so I can’t promise you anything.
In a nutshell I just wanted to say that great things are coming your way. Stay with me!

I’ve been into C++ development for a while now and I’ve been trying to figure out how to make after effects plug-ins. Do you have any resources to point me in the right direction?

There are few. The best starting point are the After Effects SDK. There are ready to use skeletons for all kind of plugins. Theres also this article http://www.mactech.com/articles/mactech/Vol.15/15.09/AfterEffectsPlugins/ It’s pretty old, but it’ll get you started. If you need someone to betatest your stuff make sure to let me know.

Hi Maltaannon,
I’m trying also to code after effects plugin. After a first look in the SDK and examples, I have no problems with the pure C/C++ coding aspect but rather with the “graphic expertise” needed. Do you have some good internet pointers for this aspect?
