Best session up to this point. We’ve talked for about 4 hours. We discussed the movies you posted links to on my FaceBook fan page. Of course most of the fun stuff happens in the Questions and Answers segment, that never gets recorded. That’s one of the many reasons why you want to join the LIVE sessions.

Discussing the process one would take to estimate the time and cost of a custom motion graphic. Learn about my process of planning the work, naming the price, and picking the client I want to work for. Learn those skills and you’ll always be happy with your work… well… most of the time anyway.

Discussion on how to improve the After Effects and 3d environment workflows for better compositing and faster rendering. UV Passes, Normal Maps, RPF format… all that good stuff. Question and answers was also very very cool, but it was not recorded. It never is. If you want to ask me a question and get an answer make sure to register and join the next live session of “Happy AfterEffecting with Maltaannon”

The show went for over 2 hours. Too bad the first part (that you see here) didn’t work out as planned. Had some technical problems at the beginning of the show and forgot to say all the things I wanted to say. Next time, watch it live. (Oh. And by the way – the professor I mentioned is cool and we still keep in touch – forgot to mention that)

Hey. I thought you’d like to know. I was just interviewed by John Dickinson from Motionworks. If you’d like to know some interesting facts about me and my work make sure to check out the interview. Unplugged 4: Maltaannon.

Have you ever rendered out a sequence from any 3d application like Cinema 4D or 3D Studio Max and wanted to replace something in it after you rendered it out? It happened to me a couple of times. Not to mention that it would be super cool if you could blend you 3D objects better with your After Effects environment. There are tools to do that on the side of the 3D package, but what about After Effects? Shouldn’t we have a chance to change our minds and make changes inside our favorite compositing tool?

We’ve all been through this. Creating channel separation effect by hand is a pain. You have to duplicate the layers and use channel mixer and blend modes to get what you want. Not anymore. Now with new After Effects CS4 we can script a simple Pixel Bender to do just that.

Despite my huge efforts to make expressions less distant and less scary for After Effects users unfortunately I still get a lot of questions about them on my hotline and in my email. That’s why I thought that maybe it’s a good idea to start posting articles about them. What do you think?

This idea has just struck me like a lightning. We all want 3d models in AE, right? What if we really could? I already took few attempts of expanding the range of 3d features in AE and it’s not up to me to say whether they are useful or not, but I feel theres much more to be done. Well… we all know that there is a lot to be done, but I really think theres something that can be done while waiting for Adobe to introduce a 3d engine inside AE. But I will need your help to make our dream come true.

This subject is as old as the Earth itself. How to create 3D planets? Simple. Just apply CC Sphere onto a texture, right? Wrong! If you want to make it cool you need to do a couple other things as well, which I’m going to show you in this upcoming tutorial.
